Rewards credit card holders love to obtain credit cards rewards points. And why not? Credit card rewards give bonuses and privilege to its members by simply using credit cards on their purchases. However, not all credit card rewards are suitable for all types of people. Using the wrong types of rewards credit cards can be more of a disadvantage rather than an advantage if not correctly used. Thus, as a consumer, you need to make sure that you’ll get the one suitable to your needs and lifestyle.

All rewards credit cards require its users to gather points in order to get a bonus or an incentive. Points are collected with each time the card holder makes a purchase using his credit card. Different credit cards give different points equivalent to every dollar of purchase. When the card holder has collected the minimum points needed, she can claim his bonus or reward.

Credit card rewards come in different packages. There are credit cards that especially provide free travel privileges, gas rebates, cash rebates on purchases, cash back rewards, discounts, freebies and a combination of all these bonuses. Hence, you can select your preferred type of reward that you can most benefit with.

An important reminder for rewards credit card holder is to select the card that matches their spending. For example, a frequent travel miles card may not be best for those who only use their credit cards once in awhile. It will usually take a huge number of mileage points before you can receive your travel reward. Thus, you may need to make a very large amount of purchase before you can collect the minimum number of mileage points required to travel.

Those in business generally make large purchases so they can easily collect mileage points with a travel rewards credit card. On the other hand, for those who only use their credit cards for their personal needs can perhaps best benefit from a gas rewards credit card of a cash back rewards credit card. This is because these cards usually do not entail very large amounts of purchases before the card holder is able to redeem rewards. For instance, with a gas rewards credit card, you can get a 3% to 5% rebate on your gas purchases. Imagine how much money you’ll be able to save in an entire month by adding up all the rebates you earn for this whole period. Also, some credit cards award 1% up to 10% rebates on all purchases while others use a point system to give rewards. There are credit cards that give 1 point for each dollar spent on your account while other card issuers give double points for each dollar.Obviously, you need to choose your rewards credit card very carefully. Don’t forget to review all terms and conditions that apply to that specific rewards credit card you’re applying for. Furthermore, bear in mind that the important thing with owning a credit card is to pay your balances on time. Otherwise, you may lose your privilege of redeeming your rewards and even worse, you can be facing bad credit in no time at all.

As more of us struggle to pay off high interest debt, 0% or low rate balance transfers are coming to the rescue. Or are they? Balance transfers can be really handy, provided you’re aware of some of their shortcomings. Here is our list of the top 7 things you need to know when contemplating a balance transfer.

Always make your payments on time
It’s very important to make payments on your transfer on time. These types of accounts generally make prompt payments a condition and if you skip or miss them you could be heavily penalised.

Know when the low rate period ends
Most balance transfer deals have an introductory low or no rate period which is usually three, six, nine or twelve months. In order to make the most of your transfer you need to know when this introductory rate ends. Make note of the date and work towards getting the majority of your credit card debt paid off by this time.

Read the fine print
As with any banking product, make sure you read the fine print associated with your card. If you’re unsure of any conditions, speak to a customer service representative before you apply.

Don’t use the card for cash advances
Cash advances on a low or no rate balance transfer cards are a no no. These cards are really handy to pay off large amounts of accumulated debt, they’re definitely not designed for withdrawing cash or making purchases. Cash advances always attract a higher rate of interest and they’ll eat into any potential savings. In addition to a high interest rate, any cash advances will be treated differently from the transferred debt and can only be paid once the entire balance transfer has been paid off, see below for more information.

Don’t get tricked by payment hierarchy
Payment hierarchy is something that all credit companies do and it can catch consumers out. Here’s how it works – you transfer a debt of $4000 to your new 0% balance transfer card. You also use this new card to make $1000 worth of purchases. Any payments you make will be applied to the debt that is attracting the lowest interest rate, in this case it would be the balance you transferred. Any additional purchases attract a higher rate of interest and would only be paid off once the total of your balance debt is paid.

Don’t leave it too late to switch
A lot of transfer offers are only available for a limited amount of time after you’ve opened your credit card account. The key is to get the balance transfer happening as soon as you have the card in your hand. To help you with this, a lot of card providers give you the option of automatically transferring the balance and closing your old account upon activation of the transfer. This is a great way to make sure you’re making the most of the interest free or low interest period associated with your new account.

It pays to shop around
The key to finding the right deal to suit your financial situation is to shop around. Balance transfer offers are becoming commonplace and all the banks are vying for new business. Pay attention to what the banks are advertising and do a bit of research online to see what deals are on offer. If you need a quick and easy way to find information about balance transfer credit cards then use a credit card comparison website.

If used right, credit card balance transfers are a great tool for reducing credit card debt. By doing a little research and understanding potential pitfalls before you sign up, you can save yourself some money and a lot of aggravation.

Student credit cards are the best way for a young person to establish credit in his or her name. You can apply for student credit cards as soon as you are 18 years old as long as you are a full time student. In some cases, students can have their parents co-sign for their student credit cards so that they can establish credit in their own name with a parent co-signer.

Most student credit cards are for very low balances or are pre-paid cards. Pre-paid student credit cards are the best option for a student to establish credit. They have a balance that has already been put forth and are basically secured credit cards. They are easy for any student to get and can help them establish credit in their own name.

Another way that students can establish credit is by using gas cards. Gas cards are credit cards that are used just for gas stations. They are generally easy to get and a good way to establish credit. Once the gas cards have been paid off regularly and are not overdue, the student will have found that he or she has credit in their name. It is easy as long as they pay off the balance each month.

Teach students how the credit card game is played and how they can win. The one way that anyone can win the credit card game is to pay for only what you can afford using credit cards. Credit cards are a convenient way to make purchases and can also offer you buyer protection. If you purchase something online, for example, you are protected if you use credit cards. If you do not use credit cards and make a purchase online, may be out the money if the item is defective or you are not satisfied with the purchase. Many credit cards offer you a guarantee if you use the card. If the item is defective, you can then return it and be assured of getting a refund. Even if the store is not agreeable to a refund, the credit card company will dispute the purchase.

Students should be taught how to use credit cards and play the credit card game but not be encouraged to spend more money than they can afford to use each month. When the student credit cards are due, they should be paid off immediately. This is the same with any type of credit card. There should be no delay so that you can avoid late penalties and interest fees – both of which can be substantial.

Many people are afraid to use credit cards because they feel that they will get into a credit card trap. This is not true. Credit cards are convenient and can offer you buyer protection. You just have to be sure to be prepared to pay off the balance of the credit cards when they come due and not to exceed your borrowing limit. Students who get student credit cards should learn how to play the credit card game and build their credit at the same time. By doing this, they can establish excellent credit in their name, never exceed their spending limit and win the credit card game.

Credit cards are no more a luxury, they are almost a necessity. So, you would imagine a lot of people going for credit cards. In fact, a lot of people posses more than one credit cards. So, the credit card industry is growing by leaps and bounds. However, the credit card industry and credit card holders are posed with a big problem called ‘Credit Card Debt’. In order to understand what ‘credit card debt’ actually means, we need to understand the workflow associated with the use of credit cards as such.

Credit cards, as the name suggests, are cards on which you can get credit i.e. make borrowings (your credit card debt). Your credit card is a representative of the credit account that you hold with the credit card supplier. Whatever payments you make using your credit card are actually your borrowings that contribute towards your credit card debt.

Your total credit card debt is the total amount you owe credit card supplier. You must settle your credit card debt on a monthly basis. So, you receive a monthly statement or your credit card bill which shows your total credit card debt. You must pay off your credit card debt by the payment due date failing which you will incur late fee and interest charges.

However, you have the option of making a partial (minimum) payment too, in which case you don’t incur late fee but just the interest charges on your credit card debt. If you don’t pay off your credit card debt in full, the interest charges too get added to it. So your credit card debt keeps on increasing, more so because the interest rates on credit card debt are generally higher than the interest rates on other kind of loans/borrowings. Further, the interest charges add on to your credit card debt each month to form the new balance or the new credit card debt amount.

If you continue making partial payments (or no payments) the interest charges are calculated afresh on the new credit card debt. So you end up paying interest on the last month’s interest too. Thus your credit card debt accumulates rapidly and soon you find that what was once a relatively small credit card debt has ballooned into a big amount which you find almost impossible to pay. Moreover, if you don’t still control you’re spending habits, your credit card debt rises even faster. This is how the vicious circle of credit card debt works.

It is a well known fact that there are many different credit cards available today. In order to pick a credit that will work for you, pick one that reflects your lifestyle as well as your ideal spending limit. In order to find the best credit card company and the best possible deal, you will need to do your research to find the perfect card for you.

When picking a credit card, you will first need to decide what you need the credit card for. Some people want a credit card simply for the purpose of cash flow. Making purchases on a credit card, can then free up your income. You can put that money in your bank account and let it draw interest. This allows your money to earn interest, all the while you are still able to buy the things you need. Then, when the credit card bill comes in, you pay it in full, in order to avoid finance charges.

Instant cash purposes is another popular reason people get credit cards. They are then able to use the credit card at any ATM to obtain cash. Credit cards used for these purposes are great for an extended vacation or when traveling in general. If this is your sole purpose for obtaining a credit card, make sure that you find one with the lowest instant cash transaction rate.

With any credit card, it is always important to consider the monthly payments. You will either need to pay the credit card balance off each month or make the minimum required payment. When choosing a credit card, be sure to look at the balance transfer rates, any introductory rates, as well as any incentives that might apply to new credit card holders. Often times, if you have good credit, you can receive some amazing deals.

Credit card incentives are another important area to keep in mind. Many credit cards offer incentives such as reward points or cash back for certain purchases. Simply look around for credit card incentive programs that are appealing to your needs.

The APR or Annual Percentage Rate is another important area to look at. Whenever the incentive period ends, you will then pay the APR. Since APR’s vary from credit card to credit card, it is important to shop around and compare rates. The lower the APR is the better.

The minimum monthly payment is another area that must be looked at when choosing a credit card. Often times, credit card companies require you to pay about 3% of your total balance. Some credit cards are considerably lower, while others require a considerably higher amount. Choose a credit card with the longest interest free period available. This will help to keep your monthly payments lower.

After you have done the research and know exactly what you are getting into, you can then choose a credit card with ease. Credit cards can be a great thing to have. However, they can cause financial troubles if not used properly. If you do your homework, you will quickly be able to find the credit card that is right for you. As long at you pay your monthly bill on time and take care of your card, you will increase your credit rating, allowing you to eventually make larger purchases, like a house or a car.

Credit card debts are typically the most expensive form of debt. The high interest rate charges associated with credit cards demand immediate attention, that can be conferred by debt consolidation. Credit card debts are at a record high, due to many individuals lack of awareness of the flexibility of the modern mortgages and their ability to be used for consolidation. Many individuals currently sit with 20,000+ debt on their credit card on which they are paying 20+% interest. Escalated credit card debts are usually an outcome of unplanned spending and late repayments. Consolidating credit card debts, will help you forget all the tough times that credit card debts gave you!

Credit card debts are the result of money borrowed from credit companies without collateral. These are considered unsecured loans unlike home mortgages or vehicle loans. Credit card debts are very common since it is very easy to get one and spending with credit cards is also easy and also because credit cards charge a very high interest rate they are not so easy to pay off. Besides as credit cards are easy to acquire this makes them even more susceptible to high usage. Credit Card debts are fast affecting many card holders and are often considered a very difficult spot to wiggle out of. There are though methods such as debt management and debt consolidation to take care of this.

Credit card debts are hard to handle on your own. Now, you don’t have to as there are many companies who can help you. Falling into arrears is never good and credit card debts are the worst in this regard they have very open ended terms and the interest and penalties keep piling up to such an extent that often you are unable to repay them. Credit Card debts are unsecured, meaning you will most likely not lose any property (such as your car or home) in the event that you cannot make your payments. However, when you refinance your credit card debt with a home equity loan , you are turning those unsecured debts into a debt that is secured by your home so doing this before they get to out of control can be a benefit.

Consolidating credit card debts makes it easy to manage them. The high interest credit card debts are repaid through a lump-sum payment. Consolidate credit card debts and become one with the world, debt related stress is a real killer of the 21st century.

Consolidation by paying off the high interest card with the low interest one is another possibility, consider applying for a credit card with a low introductory rate. LOow interest credit cards feature either a fixed low apr or low introductory interest rate. Compare low interest credit cards side by side to determine which credit card you should apply for. There are many comparison web sites where you can do this. Consolidating your credit cards allows you to monitor your due dates with ease and lessen the risk of your missing a payment ans the number of payments you make each month is far less. If you are still credit worthy, apply for a personal loan or mortgage to pay off all your existing credit card debts.

Consumers who are able to pluck cash out of their home equity and consolidate credit card debts are in an excellent position. But with mortgage lending rules tighter and home equity vanishing as home prices fall, refinancing is no longer a quick fix for everyone.

One last thing payments made against credit card debts are tiered in such a way that you’ll pay off the cheapest or interest free portion first. If you dont clear that balance during the 0% on purchases period, then the expensive debt left over will be hit with interest levels of around 17%. Payment through credit cards is just like drawing a loan, but at a much higher rate. Payment protection insurance (PPI) meets your repayments if you are not working due to an accident, sickness or unemployment, and pays off your balance if you die. Alas, it is massively overpriced, and typically adds a tenth (10% a year) to the cost of servicing your credit card. This can take your interest rate to over 20% so make sure you need that insurance before blindly signing up.

Credit cards are becoming more and more widely used in the United States, making credit card advances an increasingly relevant method of business financing for small businesses in particular. In 2006, there were over 984 million bank-issued Visa and MasterCard credit card and debit card accounts in the United States, and over 450 million Visa cards in the U.S. Therefore, accepting credit cards not only makes you one step closer to being eligible to receive a business cash advance, but it could also possibly boost your business’s sales.

A merchant must accept credit cards in order to receive a credit card advance because the advance is repaid through customers’ credit card purchases. A merchant who does not accept credit cards is then ineligible to receive credit card advances, and has one less accessible source for business financing. Having access to readily available funds is extremely important for a business owner, and is becoming increasingly important today as acquiring bank business loans is becoming more and more difficult.

There are various reasons why some merchants choose not to accept credit cards. Some feel that the costs of accepting credit cards would cause them to raise their prices, and they don’t want to make their customers pay for their decision to accept credit cards. For many places, “…credit cards represent processing fees, equipment costs and additional time to complete transactions that they just don’t want to take on,” states Credit Cards’ website. But looking at the bigger picture, the benefits that come along with accepting credit cards may be greater than the disadvantages. Some people simply don’t like carrying cash; others want to gain points to earn rewards on their credit cards, and more and more people are using credit cards to survive. A recent study showed that people are more likely to pay their credit card bills before their mortgages.

As of 2005, credit cards accounted for 19 percent of all purchases and debit cards accounted for 33 percent of all purchases. Combined, they accounted for over half of all purchases in the United States. And according to Credit Cards’ website, businesses forfeit up to 80 percent of consumer impulse buys if they don’t accept credit cards.

How many times have you gone into a store and as you attempt to hand your debit or credit card over to the cashier he/she says, “We accept cash only”? Then anger consumes you for a brief second as you realize you’re going to have to pay an extra $2.50 to use the in-store ATM machine to get cash, or leave empty-handed. If you don’t accept credit cards, your customer’s may often feel the same way, and this can result in an abundance of missed sales.

Credit card advances are not only for retail stores. Many service-oriented stores can also receive credit card advances. Hair and nail salons and other services that previously only accepted cash are also beginning to accept credit cards, making the advantages of a credit card advance available to them as well.

If your business accepts credit cards, and you need additional funds, apply for a credit card advance. Once your advance is approved a small percentage from your businesses credit card sales will go towards your credit card advance repayment. The payments adjust to the flow of your businesses sales. It’s that simple! You’ll never have to make a fixed monthly payment.

With the credit card advance, you can get the most out of your customers’ purchases, and you’ll come to appreciate them in a whole new light.

Having a credit card makes life convenient but knowing about credit cards is much better. You should educate yourself about credit cards and its various nuances because it actually helps. A credit card is a small plastic card issued by a credit card issuer like banks, credit unions and the like. It enables the user to borrow money for making payments. The shape and size of a credit card usually conforms to a particular standard set by the ISO 7810 standard. Credit card holders have to pay an interest to the credit card issuer for the usage of the credit card. Anybody can get a credit card subject to the approval of the application by the card issuer.

Usually two types of credit cards are available- secured credit cards and pre-paid credit cards. The first one is issued against a deposit account whereas the latter is issued on a prior cash deposit amount.

Credit cards help people to manage and monitor both personal and work-related expenses and these cards are accepted the world over. Credit cards are available with a variety credit limits to suit individual requirements along with multiple repayment options. Card Hub and such other search engines can help you to find the best card for yourself with higher credit limits. There are credit cards that offer reward schemes when purchasing goods. Points are given on every purchase and the same can be redeemed with more goods or cashback.

A credit report is prepared on individual credit cards that contain the credit history of a credit card holder. Past and present borrowings, past repayment records, present debts etc are all recorded in a credit report which reflects the credit worthiness of a person. A satisfactory credit report means that the concerned individual has a good credit score. This increases the chances to get further credit from banks or credit lenders. A credit report that has a good credit score, works in the favor of a credit applicant. Long overdue bills reduce the credit ratings of a person.

A credit card holder receives his/her credit card statement every month end which indicates the total purchases made with the card, outstanding fees and total amount owed. An interest is charged on the amount owed which may be of a higher rate. The credit card holder has to clear the bill by the stipulated due date. Failure to do so increase his/her chances of getting into a credit card debt. Interest charges may be waived off by the credit card issuer if the balance is paid in full on or before the due date.

The current growth of UK debt is £1million every 8 minutes and we all contribute a Stonking £263 million in interest a day. There is currently 27.4million credit cards transactions made a day with a total value of £1.56billion. The total credit card debt in the UK for September 2008 was £55.7 billion and the average adult in the UK has approximately 4 credit cards, store cards and debit cards.

It is little wonder that we are all looking for the ‘secrets to paying off our credit card debts.’ We make our monthly payment and then find that we paid more in interest than the amount that was reduced off our outstanding balance. Frightening isn’t it!

When you look closely at your credit card statement you will see that the interest rates are somewhere between 0% and 27% per year depending on the provider. The average card is generally around the 17% +/-mark.

The secrets to paying off your credit card debts are:-

1. Credit card consolidation is the solution of last resort unless it is the only option available to you due to the lack of your disposable income.

2. Shop around for a credit card provider who offers a 0% credit card deal for the longest period of time. The normal offer is for 9 months or 12 months. Check the providers transfer fees for moving your balance to them and see if you can find a provider with either a lower fee or even better no transfer fee. Make sure that you move the balance to another card at the end of the 0% deal. If you don’t then you will certainly go on their worst interest rate deal. Don’t try and arrange too many 0% deals in the same month as you could find yourself being turned down. Just move one or two cards every other month.

3. It is also worth considering a credit card with a low interest rate for the term of the balance. But don’t spend any money on it as the interest rate for new purchases will be exorbitantly higher.

4. If you are paying any Payment protection Insurance then you must see if you can find a cheaper policy to cover all your outstanding cards elsewhere. You should cover yourself for accident, sickness and redundancy with the same cover or better. Then cancel the credit card protection insurance from your credit card.

5. Move all of your credit card balances to better interest rate deals. Make sure that you move all you highest interest rates onto the lowest interest rate deals first.

6. Don’t forget you can always ring up your credit card provider and ask what deals they have. It might be a better deal then you are currently on and any deal that is lower than you are paying now is better.

7. Now you have rearranged your credit cards you should start paying as much as you can comfortably afford off the highest interest rate cards first and the minimum allowed off the interest only cards. Get the highest interest rate cards down as quick as you can. Keep moving those cards to the next best interest rate deal as soon as the last deal finishes until all your credit cards have a ZERO balance.

8. Once you have cleared a credit card balance completely then cancel the card and move the money you were spending on the card you cancelled to the next card and watch as your balances just fall away.

9. Start using your debit cards instead of your credit cards and you will find that this will curb your passion to spend on plastic. You will go overdrawn in your bank account if you have not got enough money to cover your purchases. The bank will charge you an overdrawn charge of around £20 to £37 and you will quickly realise that you can only spend what you can afford.

10. When you have a Zero balance and one credit card left you need to reward yourself you have earned it! What a Result! Congratulations

Now that you are debt free and in control of your finances you may like to try this. You have now qualified as a Master Credit Card Tart. Apply for a 0% credit card. Then withdraw the full amount of credit they have given you and buy National Premium Bonds. Pay the minimum monthly payment allowed. At the end of the 0% deal move the balance to the next 0% deal and so on. Here is the best bit it will never cost you anything and all the winnings are tax-free and all yours courteous of the credit card company. You may just be one of the two lucky £1million Winners that they announce each month. What a flexible friend you now have!

The eleventh secret is you could contact Finance Claims Checker and let them see if your credit card agreements are invalid and unenforceable in law. If they are then they may be able to have your credit card balances written off using their solicitors and the legal loopholes in the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
